Netgear Router – How to Use in Smart Way

A wireless router is a device that acts as a gateway between your computer and your high-speed modem. The wireless access point allows connecting your wireless devices from the Network such as Laptop. Netgear produces many types of routers, offering different ranges and options for both business and home users.

Before using a Netgear router, you must connect your devices using Ethernet cables and configure router options. Connect your high-speed modem to the Netgear router via an Ethernet cable.

Turn off and unplug before connecting it to your router. Insert the Ethernet cable, which was connected with your modem, into the “Internet” port on the back of the router. It is located next to the power port and is designated in green. Connect your computer and Netgear router with an Ethernet cable.

Turn off your computer before connecting it to the other computer. Insert one end of the Ethernet short blue cable, which comes with your wireless Netgear on your computer. Inserts the other end into the LAN port on the back of the router.

There are several numbered LAN ports, designated in yellow. It's no different which LAN port you use. Turn on the devices in the order. First turn on your modem, then wait for at least 2 minutes. This allows you to connect to your ISP server.

Make sure that the modem status indicator shows that it is properly connected to the server. Then plug the AC adapter into the Netgear router and a power outlet. The adapter connects to the back of the router on the black port called “Power”. Wait at least 2 minutes to connect the router from your high-speed modem. If all status lights are on, it means it's properly connected.

Now turn on your computer. Open your web browser and connect to the router URL.
In the address bar of your browser, type the router address. Wireless Netgear can be http://www.routerlogin.net, http://www.routerlogin.com, or http://192.168.1.1. You can use any of them. Press “Enter” once you have typed the address. Enter the default username and password. By default, the username is “admin” and the password is “password”. Text boxes are case-sensitive, so it's important to use lowercase letters.

Follow the instructions written in the “Setup Wizard”. Once you sign in to the router, the wizard will load and ask Are you want to detect the type of Internet connection. Click the “Yes” radio button, then click “Next”. Once the wizard is complete, the configuration will be complete and you will be able to access the Internet using the wireless router. Adjusts wireless settings. If you have wireless devices that you want to connect to the Netgear router, you need to access their settings. Enter the router as described in Steps 4 and 5, then search and click the “Wireless Setting” link in the main menu.

Now, you can change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from “NETGEAR” to a custom one, and you can configure security, an access code is required to connect to your wireless network. When you are finished changing the settings, click “Apply”. You must use this SSID and password to connect wireless devices to your Netgear wireless router.
